Paediatrician somnologist

We help children and their parents find peace at night to keep their balance in the day. Highly qualified child sleep specialist: somnologist – paediatrician Dr. Marta Celmina, Riga NeiroMed Clinic, 8b Gunara Astras Street

Sleep is not a luxury – it is the foundation of health. Don’t let sleep disorders become every day. The child’s sleep is the foundation of the family’s daily stability.

When a child sleeps well, the whole family feels good.

Sleep isn’t just a relaxation – it’s a biological and emotionally important process for a child’s growth, brain development and daily feeling. It is during sleep that the brain processes information, strengthens memory and restores strength for the next day.

Scientists have found that a child’s brain works actively in sleep — language, behaviour and even the immune system develop. If sleep is too short, restless or interrupted, it has a direct impact on a child’s emotional balance, behaviour and learning. Sleep is also essential for parents – if a child does not sleep at night, the whole family suffers.

When to go to a paediatrician - sleep specialist?

Sleep disorders are common in children, but if they interfere with family dynamics, they shouldn’t be ignored or put off in the hope of “will pass by itself.” Especially if the disorder lasts more than a few weeks. The consultation will help clarify the reasons for sleep disorders and prevent their consequences in a timely manner.

The most common complaints we help at the NeiroMed Clinic:

  • daytime drowsiness, falling asleep at school or in the afternoon,
  • Difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking at night, a premature waking up,
  • night terror, walking, talking in sleep,
  • restless legs before falling asleep, discomfort in the body before falling asleep,
  • snoring, breath retention (obstructive sleep apnea)
  • behavioural or learning difficulties that can be associated with poor sleep,
  • disrupted sleep-waking rhythm (e.g. in adolescents).

Why choose NeiroMed?

We know how challenging it is to wait in a long queue for a visit when a child has a problem that affects not just every night and day of the child, but the dynamics of the whole family, so at the NeiroMed clinic the examination is done on previous booking. Our specialists will provide professional advice and, if necessary, examinations in a calm, balanced atmosphere. After meeting our specialists, you will feel that we are taking care of your health!

The NeiroMed Clinic offers the best approach:

  1. We go into depth – the first visit devotes enough time to understanding a child’s sleep habits, routine and complaints.
  2. We educate parents giving practical, evidence-based information about sleep physiology and possible solutions.
  3. Personalized approach – treatment adapted to your child’s needs and family routine.
  4. Teamwork – we attract a child psychologist, ENT specialist, neurologist or allergologist etc., if necessary.

What to expect on a visit? During the visit the specialist shall:

  • discuss a child’s sleep habits, daily routine, behaviour, psychological condition,
  • assess possible causes of sleep disorders,
  • ask to complete a sleep diary or self-assessment questionnaires,
  • additional examinations will be recommended if necessary:

– sleep examinations (polygraphy, polysomnography);
-blood tests (e.g. full blood counts, blood biochemistry and iron levels in the blood).

What can parents do before the visit?

  • fill in the sleep diary for at least 7 days
  • record sleeping, waking times, sleep duration and disturbances,
  • prepare previous doctors’ findings or exam results, and blood test results, if available,
  • record your child’s medication (or take a photo),
  • if you’re concerned about your child’s sleep (breath retention, kicking, snoring), film the episode.

Our goal is a better everyday life for your family

A sleep disorder is not a “whim” or “stage that will pass” in children. These are signals that a child’s body is overloaded or imbalanced. Don’t delay help – the sooner a solution is found, the easier the road to recovery.
