Audiometry
Audiometry - accurate and painless hearing test at NeiroMed clinic
Hearing is essential for our daily communication, balance and safety. Reduced hearing ability can develop unobserved, but timely testing helps identify both temporary and permanent hearing impairment.
Audiometry is a non-invasive and secure examination that allows you to determine the hearing threshold — the quietest sound a person can detect at different frequencies.
How is audiometry going?
During the hearing test, the patient listens to the sounds of different strengths and heights generated by a special machine, an audiometer. Depending on the type of examination, the sounds are emitted:
- separately for each ear with a headset (pure tone audiometry),
- or simultaneously for both ears, in a free field (audiometry in a room with a sound field).
The patient should indicate when they hear the sound – orally, by gesture or by pressing the button. The results obtained are displayed in an audiogram, a graphic that helps you assess your hearing condition and determine the next steps in treatment or rehabilitation.
In what cases is audiometry recommended?
- Decreased or variable hearing in one ear
- Noise or whistling in the ears (tinnitus)
- Difficulty in capturing speech in a noisy environment
- Information of hearing loss in family history
- Hearing impairment assessment after injury or middle ear inflammation
- If you work in a noisy environment and want to check your hearing health preventively
NeiroMed benefits: collaboration between LOR specialist and neurologist
At the NeiroMed clinic, audiometry is performed by a neurotolaryngologist — an ear, nose and throat doctor with additional specialization in neurology. Our approach allows:
- to immediately assess the neurological nature of possible hearing and balance problems,
- collaborate effectively with neurologists, such as when hearing nerve neuropathy is suspected, or the association of vestibular disorders with migraines.
